چکیده

The intensity of two-photon-excited fluorescence measured relative to the intensity of hyper-Rayleigh scattering in the same apparatus was used to determine the two-photon-excited fluorescence cross sections of the xanthene dyes Rhodamine B, Rhodamine 6G, and Fluorescein. The measured cross sections at l0 5 1064 nm are s2PF (2) 5 1.5 6 0.3 3 10250 cm4 s, 2.0 6 0.4 3 10250 cm4 s, and 1.4 6 0.3 3 10252 cm4 s, for the three dyes, respectively. The two-photon-excited fluorescence cross section of Rhodamine B was also calibrated with one-photon-excited fluorescence in this apparatus. The result, s2PF (2) 5 2.3 6 0.7 3 10250 cm4 s, is in reasonable agreement with the result calibrated by hyper-Rayleigh scattering. The results for Rhodamine B are 1.5–6 times smaller than previous results calibrated by one-photon-excited fluorescence. © 1999 Optical Society of America [S0740-3224(99)01406-X] OCIS codes: 190.4180, 190.4710, 300.2530, 300.6410.

Spontaneous, stimulated, coherent and incoherent nonlinear wave mixing and Hyper-Rayleigh scattering; a unified quantum-field description

By combining a quantum treatment of the radiation field with a superoperator formalism we present compact expressions for a broad variety of coherent and incoherent nonlinear optical signals. Spontaneous signals are classified according to the molecular coherence range: homodyne detected signals result from long range two particle coherence whereas Rayleigh and hyper-Rayleigh scattering are sho...

Polarized hyper-Rayleigh light scattering measurements of nonlinear optical chromophores

Hyper-Rayleigh light scattering measurements at incident wavelengths of 1064 and 1319 nm are reported for several organic nonlinear optical chromophores in solution with approximately 5%– 10% uncertainty in the relative first hyperpolarizabilities. The measured chromophores include representatives from C1 , Cs , C2V, and D3 molecular point groups and include both neutral and ionic compounds. Th...

Two-photon vibrational spectroscopy for biosciences based on surface-enhanced hyper-Raman scattering.

Two-photon excitation is gaining rapidly in interest and significance in spectroscopy and microscopy. Here we introduce a new approach that suggests versatile optical labels suitable for both one- and two-photon excitation and also two-photon-excited ultrasensitive, nondestructive chemical probing. The underlying spectroscopic effect is the incoherent inelastic scattering of two photons on the ...

2 1 A ug 2 00 9 Experimental verification of a self - consistent theory of the first - , second - , and third - order ( non ) linear optical response

We show that a combination of linear absorption spectroscopy, hyper-Rayleigh scattering, and a theoretical analysis using sum rules to reduce the size of the parameter space leads to a prediction of the two-photon absorption cross-section of the dye AF455 that agrees with two-photon absorption spectroscopy. Our procedure, which demands self-consistency between several measurement techniques and...

Rayleigh Scattering Spectroscopy

Single-wall carbon nanotubes can be probed optically by elastic light scattering. This effect forms the basis of a technique, termed Rayleigh scattering spectroscopy, for the study of individual nanotubes. Spectroscopic information on the electronic transitions of both semiconducting and metallic nanotubes is obtained by measuring the elastic scattering cross section as a function of photon ene...
